COVID-19 Support and Recovery Program

Humanitarian Support in South Asia

    • ICDR, in collaboration with its local partners in Nepal and other
parts of South Asia, has been actively working on humanitarian efforts
to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. We launched numbers of COVID-19
emergency relief support and advocacy programs in Nepal, India, and
      other parts of South Asia.
    • In collaboration with local governments and communities, ICDR has
provided food, shelter, and medical supplies such as masks, PPE kits
for 1500 families in South Asia, including Nepal.
    • ICDR is leading its efforts to enforce inclusive and
non-discriminatory laws during the relief distribution and management
procedures by the government entities and international development
agencies related to the COVID-19 crisis in South Asia.

COVID-19 Recovery Program in USA, esp. in DMV Area

  • The ICDR International is committed to provide seamless support for
residents, including small businesses, students, low-income families,
and immigrants living in the U.S., especially in the DC metro area.
The goal of this program is to leverage community-centric solutions
with a broader collaboration and engagement of community-based
organizations and residents who could share available resources to
support emergency relief and their knowledge or information that would
allow residents and small businesses to become aware of, get access
to, or further their understanding of how to navigate programs or
    processes related to COVID-19 recovery.
  • On May 15, 2020, ICDR launched COVID-19 relief and recovery program
    (ICRRP)
    with two mission objectives:

    • Provide emergency relief (financial assistance, food, shelter, and
medical supplies) for those negatively impacted by the COVID 19
      pandemic.
    • Provide educational and/or informational services to navigate
programs or processes related to COVID-19 recovery for residents
      and small businesses
  • On June 02, 2020, the ICDR created a COVID-19 Rapid Response Taskforce
Team that includes state-wise focal team to coordinate, serve, manage,
and fundraise for COVID19 impacted residents in the DMV area and to
support for the DC metro residents in response to COVID-19 recovery.

ICDR’s key COVID Emergency Relief efforts

Food Supplies

ICDR provided food supplies for 167 DC metro residents, particularly for racial minorities, immigrants, and students.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance provided for 25 families protecting evictions from rent/mortgage delinquencies.

Shelter and Medical Supplies

ICDR provided shelter for 37 COVID-19 impacted families in the DC metro area.

We have been providing COVID-19 preventive medical supplies such as masks and sanitizers for residents and transportation for COVID-19 patients in collaboration with community-based organizations in the DMV area.

COVID-19: Impact Tracker by Caste, Race and Descent

ICDR in association with various stakeholders has been tracking COVID impact by caste, race, and descent. Comprehensive data by caste, race, and descent is key for understanding the impacts of COVID-19 and poverty across communities on health and economic disparities. Data by caste, race and descent is to be also important for understanding the extent to which there are disparities in access to and receipt of health and economic relief. Together, these data can help shape and target response and relief efforts for the COVID-19 recovery processes.

Community Counselling and Educational/Informational Services

We have been providing educational and informational services for the district and DMV-based small businesses that have been operated by racial minorities and been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in the DC metro area. We organized 15 community meetings since May 2020 about how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic and navigate programs or processes related to COVID-19 recovery; we hosted seven special educational and informational seminars to educate about CAREs Act and SBA COVID-19 recovery programs that include eligibilities and processes for PPP and SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Applications, forgivable loans, and /or grants to the DMV-based small businesses and non-profits. We have translated key provisions of CAREs Act into Nepali and Hindi languages so that non-English speakers could be benefited or not left behind.

Advocate for non-discriminatory law

We built awareness for residents about equal access and protection from public services to assure that the COVID-19 pandemic response enforces inclusive and anti-discrimination laws and ensures equal access to the resources needed for recovery, especially for the most vulnerable sections of society, who have historically been exploited and have faced systematic social exclusion, exploitation and discrimination based on caste, race, national origin, ancestry, gender, and descent.
